Civil Engineering Summer Camp (www.iitk.ac.in/summercamp)

Developed the concept of Summer Camp for undergraduate students in Civil Engineering in colleges across the country to motivate them towards the profession and for leadership development. Typically, sixty students from sixty colleges in the country participated in the Camp every year. Funding for the Camp was provided by the industry.

• The camp was organized annually for ten years (2001-2010) at IIT Kanpur and was highly acclaimed by the industry and the academia. About 40 Civil Engineering companies made financial contributions for operating costs of the Camp.

• The President of India had sessions with the students of the camp in summer of 2003 and also in summer of 2007 at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

• On this innovative project, a reviewed paper was published in the Journal of Professional Issues in Engineering Education and Practice of the American Society of Civil Engineers (Vol 130, No. 3, July 2004).

• This camp has been the role model for developing highly-appreciated 5-week Foundation Programme for all new undergraduate students at IIT Gandhinagar (being conducted since 2011).
